History of the Series
Under conditions of reforms in higher and secondary mathematical education it is essential to highlight different approaches, directions and works in scientific and methodical serials, involving discussions and problem solutions in the field of theory and methods of teaching mathematics. One of such publications is Didactics Of Mathematics: Problems And Investigations, the international collection of the scientific works. It is the continuation of Heuristics And Didactics Of Exact Sciences collection, which was founded in 1993 by Prof. Yu. Palant in Donetsk State University. Heuristics And Didactics Of Exact Sciences collection had existed as a scientifically-methodical publication of Donetsk region before 1997.
And Didactics Of Exact Sciences collection presented the issues of
use and development of heuristic means in education, stimulation of
students’ creative activity in the process of solving mathematical
tasks. Discussion of these directions on in the Collection attracted
the attention of scientists both in Ukraine and in other countries
of the world. Works of A. Plotski and his colleagues (Poland), M.
Voskoglou (Greece), M. Sonis (the Israel), V. Berinde, C. Florin (Romania),
A. Kivinukk (Estonia), N. Chkhaidze (Georgia), G. Sarantseva (Russia)
were published in the Collection.
The articles published in
the Collection, were of great variety not only geographically by
also represented different scientific and methodical directions
which allowed to increase the editorial board and editorial councile
of the Collection.
Since 1997 the Collection
has become international. it was the first publication in Ukraine
devoted to scientific and methodical work in Theory and Methods of
Teaching Mathematics. Founders of the Collection were Donetsk
National University, Dragomanov National Pedagogical University (Kiev),
Pedagogical Institute of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of
Ukraine (Kiev) and Donetsk School Of Heuristic And Exact Sciences (Donetsk
Company of Scientifically Based Technologies TEAN of the National
Academy of Sciences of Ukraine). In 1997 by Resolution of the
Presidium HQC of Ukraine the Collection was included to the list of
Ukrainian scientific specialized serials, which includes the results
of theses of pedagogical sciences, both doctor’s and candidate’s
In 1999 the serial was
reregistered in the Higher Qualifying Commission of Ukraine. It was
renamed to "Didactics Of Mathematics: Problems And Investigations",
which was a natural result of the expansion of the authors’
scientific interests. Numbering of the issues was continuous.
2000 the Collection has been headed by Prof. O. Skafa, the follower
of Prof. Yu. Palant, head of the Department of Higher Mathematics
and Methods of Teaching Mathematics at Donetsk National University.
The problems of heuristic teaching of mathematics, forming students’ professionally oriented activity, control of pupils’ cognitive learning activity by implementing heuristic-didactic constructions keeps to be one of the main scientifical-methodical lines of the Collection. O. Skafa heads the group of the researchers, whose results are constantly reflected in the Collection (O. Timoshenko (Khoroliskaya), A. Karlashchuk, K. Vlasenko, V. Driban, G. Penina, T. Maksimova, I. Goncharova, O. Tutova, N. Ignatova, I. Reutova, I. Simkina, Y. Tymko and others). The direction of teacher’s self-realization and self-developent in higher school is being developed at Donetsk National University. Prof. N. Loseva heads the direction. Her articles and her followers’ works containing interesting scientific investigations are constantly published.
For many years among the editors of the Collection has been Prof. Z. Slepkan. She was a famous scientist in the field of theory and methods of teaching mathematics, a prominent teacher, author of many scientific works and books. The researches of Z. Slepkan revealed the problems of developing trainingf mathematics, individually oriented education in secondary and higher school, development of students’ creative thinking. Her publications in the serial dedicated to these problems arose has been of great interest not only to Ukrainian scientists, but also to foreign researchers. Scientific directions of Z. Slepkan continue her followers. They regularly publish their scientific investigations in the Collection . (V. Shvets, T. Krylova, N. Tarasenkova, A. Spivakovskiy, O. Skafa, L. Nichugovskaya, A. Grohol’skaya, L. Sukhina, V. Tatochenko, Y. Nikolov, S. Semenets, V. Zabranskiy, S. Yatsenko, O. Fomkina, E. Volyanskaya, L. Lutchenko, S. Lukyanova, S. Paraskevich, L. Fedchenko, L. Sokolenko and others). The twenty fifth issue of the Collection was devoted to Prof. Z. Slepcan’s 75th anniversary. Almost all followers of Zinaida Slepcan (more than 40 people) gave her as a gift for her anniversary their articles in the form of scientific reports about the research work carried out by them.

the founders, is contributing greatly to the development of the
Collection. Prof. V. Shvets, head of the Department of Mathematics,
Theory and Methods of Teaching Mathematics, takes active part in
shaping and developing the Collection. Problems, considered by him
and his followers (O. Matyash, N. Vanzha, G. Bilyanin, L. Topolya,
M. Krasnitskiy, P. Samovol, I. Lebedeva, I. Dremova, A. Prus, L.
Filon, O. Sheveleva and others) in their articles published in the
Collection, concern the theory and methods of teaching mathematics
at secondary and special school (technique of solving mathematical
problems, applied character of mathematical course, teaching
mathematics at secondary and special schools and control of training
results and others).

Dragomanov National Pedagogical University, Full Member of the
Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, prof. M. Zhaldak and his followers.
Their works underlie the modern methodical system of the teaching
computer science and shaping the maths teacher’s skills of using
information and communication technologies (ICT) in the process of
teaching. M. Zhaldak has founded the development of modern
computer-oriented methodical systems of teaching mathematics. These
systems combine expedient and justified interaction of the
traditional educational systems and IKT. These problems are
constantly cross lighted in the serial by professors, doctors of
sciences M. Zhaldak, V. Klochko, G. Mihalin, Y.Trius, S. Rakov, as
well as researchers O. Vityuk, V.Shavaleva, T. Kramarenko,
A.Lihodeeva and others.
of the bright directions of the Collection are works in the field of
history and methodology of mathematics as well as problems of
special preparation of future teachers. Professor at the Department
Mathematics, theory and methods of teaching mathematics at
Dragomanov National Pedagogical University V. Bevz heads this
direction. Her "History mathematics" works are devoted to the use of
historical material in teaching elementary mathematics to future
teachers. Works of the followers of V. Bevz (S. Muzychenko, I.
Sverchevskaya, T. Godovanyuk and others) are regularly published in
the Collection .
Institute of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine is also
one of the cofounder of the Collection. Corresponding Member of the
Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, prof. M. Burda,
Corresponding Member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of
Ukraine, candidate of sciences Y. Malevany, senior researcher T.
Hmara are editors of the Collection. The great contribution to
formation and development of the Collection was made by M. Burda.
The direction of his research work connected with the improvement of
teaching mathematics essentially and development of students’
creative abilities, is reflected in publications of his followers.
Works written by S. Ivanova, Y. Smorzhevskiy, O. Bukovskaya and
others are regularly published in the Collection.
Articles published by the
representatives of the scientific group of Kiev higher schools’
association (V. Groza, O. Leshchinsky, V. Tikhonova, O. Tomashchuk)
are of great interest. Their regularly published works are dedicated
to particular methodical problems of teaching mathematics at higher

N. Tarasenkova works in the field of theoretical-and-methodical base
of using sign-symbolic tools in teaching mathematics, differential
approaches to teaching mathematics and others. These directions have
found reflection in publications of Nina Tarasenkova, as well as in
the works published by I. Akulenko, A. Demchenko, I. Bogatyoreva, A.
Nesterenko, O. Kondratyeva, A. Levchenko, Z. Serdyuk, O. Kolomiyets,
N. Bosovskiy and others.
group of Dneprodzerzhinsk State Technical University under the
supervision of Prof. T. Krylova studies the scientific base of
teaching mathematics at higher school for non-mathematics students,
professionally directed mathematics teaching for students majoring
in technical sciences, arrangement of students’ self-organized work
and differential approach to teaching. According to the concept of
students’ mathematical preparing at higher technical school,
designed by T. Krylova, in the Collection have been published some
articles, devoted to distance learning of mathematics, use of
elements of person-oriented education, module-rating control and
evaluating students’ knowledge and skills at higher technical school
(O. Orlova, N. Tikhontsova, E. Gulesha and others).
group of the authors of Poltava University of Consumer Cooperation
of Ukraine under the supervision of Prof. L. Nichugovskaya deserves
mentioning, it offered the adaptive concept of the mathematical
education of students of economic professions at higher schools. The
group of researchers (E. Fomkina, N. Vanzha, L. Vovk, Yu. Galaiko,
O. Koshevaya, A.Antonets and others) considers the questions of
theory and methods of teaching mathematics to students of economic
specialties and regularly publishes the results of their research
work in the Collection.
Since the Collection was
founded its geography has extended considerably. Among Ukrainian
authors are well known works from Kiev, Donetsk, Cherkassy, Poltava,
Dneprodzerzhinsk. Researcher from many regions of Ukraine actively
participate in discussing methodical problems in their articles
published in the Collection. Among them are researchers from
Vinnitsa (V. Klochko, A. Voevoda, S. Dembitskaya, I. Kalashnikov, S.
Yablochnikov, M. Kovalchuk, L. Novitskaya, M. Mironyuk and others),
Sumy (O.Chashechnikova, S. Kolomiyets, M. Odarchenko, Z. Chukhrai),
Berdyansk (V. Shavaleva, V. Matsyuk, O. Krasnozhon, S. Masterova, S.
Kolesnik, O. Kudelina, A. Likhodeeva), Zhitomir (S. Semenets, I.
Sverchevskaya, A. Prus), Chernigov (O. Trunova, M. Nak, L. Sokolenko),
Drogobych (T. Vyichuk, O. Sharan, I. Korneichuk), Odessa (S. Ivanova,
A. Kushniruk, A. Ishchenko) and other cities.
main scientific and methodical directions, which are discussed on
pages of the Collection, attract attention of researchers both from
Ukraine and from other countries. The questions of the heuristic
methods in teaching mathematics have been discussed by Russian
scientists (N. Rozov, G. Sarantsev, N. Chekanov), as well as other
researchers (T. Shirshova, I. Zilberberg, M. Kochagina, I.
Ovcharenko, V. Shevchenko). The differential approach to teaching
mathematics has been reflected in the works published by the member
of the editorial board of the Collection Prof. V. Gusev, head of the
Department of Mathematics and Methods of Teaching Mathematics at
Moscow State Pedagogical University.
Full Member of the
Academy of Sciences of Belarus, professor of Belorussian National
Pedagogical University I. Novik is also among the editors of the
Collection. The serial is popular among researchers in the field of
theory and methods of teaching mathematics in Belarus. Prof. I.
Novik, Prof. A. Radkov, Prof. O. Melnikov, Prof. E. Semenov and
researchers N. Brovka, T. Dubik, V. Yakimovich and others published
their own articles in our Collection. Issues of teaching mathematics
heuristically, introduction of test technologies to teaching,
particular methods of teaching mathematics at higher school, using
computer-based means in training and others have been considered in
Didactics Of Mathematics: Problems And Investigations serial.
group of researchers from the United States of America headed by the
member of the editorial board Prof. I. Subbotin, Professor at Los
Angeles National University. Assistant-professor N. Bilocky (Dragomanov
National Pedagogical University) is a coordinator and co-author of
many articles. Interests of the American authors lie in the field of
particular methods of teaching mathematics at higher school, they
are also concerned with the problems of pedagogical education in
different countries of the world. Researchers (F. Mosavar-Rahmani,
H. Bedkubehi, M. Hill, N. Stankos, V. Zonhe, P. Gluhovskiy, N.
Serdyukova and others) published their articles in the Collection
and took part in the international conference called Heuristic
teaching of mathematics.
The Problems considered
in Collection are constantly observed by the researchers from Israel.
Prof. P. Samovol is editor of the Collection (Ben-Gurion University
of Negev, Beer-Sheva). He published many works with A. Braverman, M.
Eplbaum, I. Kizner. Besides, L. Bogracheva, V. Lavrik, V. Shunyakov,
I. Feigenberg, T. Olevskaya (Jerusalem) published their articles in
the Collection. The field of interests of Israelian researchers
touched the questions of applied character of mathematics course, as
well as problems of particular methods of teaching mathematics.

In the scientific collection "Heuristics and didactics of hard science" highlighted various problems of scientific research in the field of theory and methods of mathematics teaching, the issues associated with the development of modern trends of development of methodology of mathematics in higher education, among which a special place was occupied by the use and development of heuristic techniques in learning, stimulate the professional-oriented activities of students in the process of mathematics learning.
A separate direction of articles published in recent years are the works devoted to questions of formation the methodical competences of future mathematics teachers, that is, the willingness and ability to work, using a variety of modern didactic systems and technologies of teaching mathematics. Due to military events, which in 2014 began on the territory of Donetsk region, the international journal "Didactics of mathematics: problems and investigations" (fall 2014 and spring 2015) has not been published.
In 2015 the situation, when Ukraine deliberately exclude scientific publication of Donbass from the information field. The founders of the collection were three organizations: Donetsk national University (Donetsk), the Drahomanov National Pedagogical University (Kyiv) and the Institute of Pedagogy of NAPS of Ukraine – now there are only we (Donetsk national University).
In connection with recent changes it was necessary to update the composition of the editorial group. The editorial group is still in the city of Donetsk and was composed of scientists and researchers of Donetsk national University: scientific editor – Skafa Î., doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, deputy scientific editor – Evseeva E., doctor of pedagogical sciences, head of review sector – Gorr G., doctor of physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor, members of editorial group – Volchkov V., doctor of physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor, Dzundza A., doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, Kolyada M., doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor, senior secretary – Tymoshenko Î., Candidate of pedagogical sciences, technical secretary – Goncharova I., Candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor, design and support of the site – Abramenkova Ju., senior lecturer.
Changes occurred in the composition of the editorial Board. Some Ukrainian researchers have not confirmed their participation in the editorial Board, explaining that the prohibition of the Ukrainian authorities to cooperate with the scientists remaining in the territory not controlled by Ukraine.
Without integration into the Russian scientific community of research scientists of Donetsk region in the area of didactics of mathematics and the very existence of the collection was futile.
In this regard, in the same 2015 edition of the international compilation of scientific works "Didactics of mathematics: problems and investigations" has applied for its inclusion in the Russian science citation index for a more complete representation in the Russian Federation and a possible influx of new researchers wanting to publish in its pages. It was confirmed on conclusion of the agreement and inclusion of publications in the database.
The journal has resumed its work and in the fall of 2015 was published 42 issue, the editorial Board of which includes scholars such as:
